Good morning! I finally “finished” my dorm room last weekend, but didn’t get around to taking any pictures of it until yesterday afternoon. I absolutely love my room this year! It is so much more spacious than my room last year and gets amazing light almost all day long. The view out the windows isn’t quite as pretty, but I can see the mountains, which I love.
The space also works much better since the door is on one of the longer walls and is in the corner. I am in a suite, so door to my room opens up into the common lounge area of the suite. The suite is currently filled with stuff that is being gathered for Operation Christmas Child (one of my suitemates is the head of our campus’s OCC).
My desk is pretty cool. I got an inexpensive lamp from Walmart for additional lighting. The pictures frames were a graduation present from one of my best friends. The turtle (between the plants) was from a trip to California in 2010. I purchased it at Muir Woods. I decided to use my bulletin board to store my jewelry this year. I just used taller tacks, and they seem to be working well.
The wardrobe, which is built-in, is much bigger this year compared to last year. All of our rooms are supposed to come with a mirror, but our room was missing the mirror. I got this mirror at Walmart for about $5.
I am using the same quilt as last year. I brought one of my framed posters from my bedroom at home, and I created a gallery with all of my photos around it. I am really pleased with how it looks.
I used command strips to hang the poster, but just taped the photographs. I am hoping to add a row along the bottom to make it a bit more balanced, but didn’t have quite enough additional photographs. I really like how the sepia-toned poster contrasts with the brightly colored photos.
I wasn’t able to get a very good photo of the rest of my room, but the above picture shows it pretty well. Looking at this photo, I’m thinking it would be really nice to have a smaller mirror on the back of the door (especially since that is where I straighten my hair…without a mirror). On the dresser is my jewelry box and a turtle I purchased while in Maine visiting Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor this past summer. The bin on top of the fridge holds my dishes.
Overall, I really like my room this year. I think I might need to purchase a rug once it starts to get colder, but the linoleum floor does not bother me very much right now. I also want to do some sort of photo bunting, perhaps above my bulletin board/white board. Also, I want to get a small bookshelf to put next to the head of the bed as a nightstand. Right now, I pull one of the bins out from under the bed every night to function as a bedside table. It works, but I’d rather have something that looks a bit nicer.
The weather looks like it’s going to be lovely this weekend! I hope you have a great weekend!
Wow! Much more spacious. Looks good.
